Job Description

Brief Description

To work as a key person and as part of the pre-school team under the direction of the Pre-school Manager to provide safe, high quality education and care for young children.

Main Duties

  • To assist with the planning of the curriculum.
  • To help set up the playroom for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of the session.
  • To act as a key person to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.
  • To advise the Pre-School Manager of any concerns e.g., over children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
  • To support and inspire children in their learning at an appropriate level.
  • To attend staff meetings.
  • To take part in special events, outings, and visits that may take place outside normal Playgroup hours.
  • To encourage parental involvement.
  • To attend in-service training courses and meetings as required (the Committee will meet approved course fees).
  • To maintain confidentiality regarding children, parents, carers, and staff.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Three years experience of working in a Pre-School setting or similar.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Childcare.
  • Sound understanding of child development and children's needs.
  • Ability to assist with planning and implementation of a Pre-School Curriculum.
  • Commitment to Equal Opportunities and understanding of religious and cultural diversity.

  • Experience of parent-managed playgroups.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Friendly, helpful, caring, and flexible approach.
  • Self-confidence and ability to relate well to others.
  • Ability to work with parents and encourage involvement.
